First off, thank you. Seriously. The response to our waitlist launch last week has been nothing short of incredible. Lots of you have raised your hands to say, "Yes, email is broken, and I want something better." That validates everything we've been thinking.

Every time we see a new signup, it fuels our belief that we're building something that needs to exist.

But I know what you're wondering: What the hell happens next?

The Master Plan

While we'd love to drop a fully-formed product into your hands tomorrow, we're taking a more deliberate approach. Great products aren't rushed, especially when tackling something as complex as email.

Right now, we're focused on three foundational pillars:

  1. Speed that feels supernatural – We're obsessing over millisecond performance because nothing kills productivity like waiting for your inbox to load.

  2. A keyboard-first experience – Your hands should never need to leave the keyboard. Every action, every navigation element, designed for flow state.

  3. Intelligence that actually understands context – Not just generic AI responses, but a system that learns your communication patterns and relationships.

We're making solid progress every day. The building of Merin is taking shape, and we're eager to get it into your hands as soon as it delivers on our promise of a truly better email experience.

Sneak Peek: What We're Working On

Here's a small taste of what's cooking in our development kitchen:

  • Command Bar Magic – Inspired by the best command interfaces out there, we're building a ⌘+K experience that makes any action in your inbox instantly accessible.
  • Intelligent Threading – Nobody should have to scroll through 27 replies to understand a conversation. We're designing thread summarization that extracts what matters.
  • Focus Mode – A distraction-free interface that helps you process your most important messages first, based on your priorities, not an algorithm's.

The Big Challenge

Building an email client from scratch in 2025 is no small feat:

  • Gmail's API documentation feels like it was written in hieroglyphics.
  • Every email provider has their own quirky implementation of standards.

But these challenges are exactly why email clients have plateaued. Most companies take the easy route, building a prettier interface on top of the same broken foundation.

We're doing the hard work of rethinking email from first principles, because that's what it will take to deliver an experience that's genuinely transformative.
